Who is Maddi?
Performance Coach & Player Development Specialist
Coach Maddi Baker brings elite-level experience, a sharp mind for the game, and a deep love for coaching into every session she leads. A standout pitcher and third baseman at Taylor University, Maddi was a four-year starter and record-setter, known for her dominance in the circle and leadership on the field. Her accolades include First Team and Second Team All-Conference honors, two-time COSIDA Academic All-District recognition, three-time NAIA Scholar Athlete, and multiple Academic All-Conference awards.
Her name is etched throughout Taylor's record books: most strikeouts in a season (263), most career strikeouts (529), most games played and started in a season (61), and lowest opponent batting average in a season (.183). Despite being told she was too small to pitch at a high level, Maddi’s relentless work ethic and mental toughness fueled a decorated career that proved every doubter wrong.
With over seven years of coaching experience, Maddi has worked with athletes from ages 8 to 18, focusing primarily on developing young pitchers. She’s coached 12U travel teams, volunteered at the high school level, and delivered private pitching instruction since graduating high school.
“I hope to be encouraging and help players grow fundamentally while keeping the joy of the game alive. I want to challenge them mentally too—why we do what we do, how to self-correct, and how to compete under pressure. We end each session with two questions: What did you learn today? And what will you keep working on?”
Maddi’s coaching style blends energy, empathy, and high expectations. She pushes players to think critically, communicate clearly, and develop game awareness, all while building their confidence and love for the sport. Her focus on mental toughness, repetition, and personal motivation helps young athletes grow not only their skills but their mindset.
She’s passionate about giving back to the game that’s given her so much—college opportunities, lifelong friendships, and character development. Players and parents alike say what stands out most is how much Maddi truly cares—not just about results, but about the player and person behind the glove.
“Your size doesn’t define your ceiling—your mindset does. If you’re willing to work, you can be great.”
